Kunzea House

4 BED | 2 BATH
COLES BAY, TASMANIA

Located in Coles Bay on Tasmania’s iconic East Coast, this custom-designed new build showcases Matt Kennedy Drafting & Design’s integrated approach to architectural design, residential drafting and interior design in Tasmania. The home has been carefully designed to respond to its coastal setting, combining durable materials with refined detailing to suit both lifestyle and environment.

The two-storey residence comprises four bedrooms, two bathrooms and generous open-plan living, kitchen and dining spaces, creating a flexible family home tailored to modern coastal living. The layout has been thoughtfully planned to maximise natural light and connectivity, with polished concrete floors at ground level providing thermal performance, durability and a clean architectural finish.

Polished concrete floors anchor the ground level, providing durability and thermal performance well suited to East Coast conditions. A sculptural floating timber staircase with glass balustrade forms a central architectural feature, creating a visual connection between levels .

The kitchen has been designed as the heart of the home, featuring dark-toned custom joinery, a walk-in pantry and a generous island bench ideal for entertaining. A feature skylight with integrated greenery introduces natural light into the space, enhancing the indoor–outdoor connection and elevating the interior design outcome.

Bathrooms continue the refined material palette with dark joinery, minimalist fixtures and carefully considered lighting, delivering functional yet highly detailed spaces. Upstairs, the bedrooms are arranged to provide privacy and retreat, while maintaining a visual connection to the surrounding East Coast landscape.

Externally, the home is expressed through a restrained palette of white brick and lightweight cladding, delivering a robust yet elegant response to Tasmania’s coastal conditions. The material selection prioritises longevity, low maintenance and timelessness - key considerations in contemporary Tasmanian residential design.
